National Bank in the hills
This is a National Bank branch located in Matale, in the hill country of Sri Lanka. To reflect the national identity and remain in harmony with the vernacular architecture of the up-country region, we adopted a traditional architectural language throughout the design. A pitched roof was introduced to blend the building seamlessly with the surrounding hills.
Traditional Kandyan heritage–inspired artwork was painted on the lobby ceiling to create a welcoming experience for visitors.
The interior design and furniture were created to accommodate the comforts of modern amenities while maintaining a fusion of traditional architecture and contemporary interior design—both completed by us. Much of the building is naturally ventilated, taking advantage of the pleasant climate in Matale.
